You know in New York, there just isn’t enough quality Mediterranean food or places that take you back to that great bite you had in Israel or Morocco. With the recent trend of this cuisine popping up across the country, Shaya in New Orleans, Dizengoff now in Chelsea Market, and several others on their way into the city, it’s an exciting time for this culture. That being said, I think I’m the last person on earth who tried Cafe Mogador for the first time. It’s one of those spots that people have on their weekly rotation and probably the most popular brunch spot- I know. Before you discredit me, I am a big fan of their sister restaurant Cafe Orlin– that French toast though!
Brunch at Cafe Mogador is simple and to the point. You want poached eggs you got it, you want eggs florentine you got it, you want pita and hummus? Everyone’s getting it! I love the za’atar on their pita, and when you are having a Sunday-Funday and need a hearty breakfast with your boozy OJ, this is the perfect spot to sit and hang. Nothing showy or too impressive, just good old breakfast served quick and right when you want it. The Middle Eastern Eggs are a way to get a well-rounded taste here: eggs any style, hummus, tabouli, arabic salad, zahatar pita. The Halumi Eggs are for the cheese lover with poached eggs over roasted tomato, halumi cheese, olives, salad, pita. If you are in more of a carby mood, those Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes should get the job done.
