Healthy Ahi Tuna and Spicy Brussels Sprouts Recipe

So, I’ll admit it- I have a bit of a tuna obsession. From straight up cans of tuna to sashimi to tuna avocado rolls to ahi tuna steaks, I go overboard with the mercury (please keep your reprimands to yourself). However, I’ve never tried searing my own tuna. I ordered some awesome Raw Wildflower Spring Honey and JoJo’s Sriracha which are both local, artisanal and craft foods from the Northeast. Using these ingredients, I was inspired to make a sweet and spicy glaze for baked brussels sprouts because a spicy chili jam sauce seems to be my favorite flavor on these veggie.

See below for an extremely easy recipe for Spicy and Sweet Brussels Sprouts and Ahi Tuna that I think my four year old twin niece and nephews could have made. Baking the brussels sprouts is an easy prep and searing tuna takes only a few minutes on each side. It’s fun and easy and there is no reason the next time you crave ahi tuna, that you should order a $30 ahi tuna steak via seamless when you can make one portion yourself for $10 and be as equally satisfied!

Spicy and Sweet Brussels Sprouts Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • As many brussels sprouts as desired
  • 2 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Jo Jo’s Sriracha or any kind of chili paste
  • 2 tablespoons of Raw Wildflower Spring Honey
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Freshly Ground Lemon Pepper and Salt to taste

Directions:

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Quarter and clean the brussels sprouts. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay brussels sprouts on them. Add a tablespoon of coconut oil on top and sprinkle freshly ground lemon pepper and salt to taste. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes or until sprouts are browned.  Half way through, take the baking sheet out of the oven, turn the brussels sprouts over and add more coconut oil or olive oil if it’s dried out. Once it has finished baking, then make dressing.

Combine honey, sriracha, mustard, olive oil and salt and pepper in a small dish. Mix and drizzle over warm veggies.
