Let me just say that Hu Kitchen is not the type of place I usually review as it’s best suited for grab-and -go style dining but there are seating areas upstairs and downstairs. I would compare it to a more specialized and boutique Whole Foods. Hot and Cold food is ready to be ordered and taken away. However, after dedicating my life, lunch/ dinner to this place for at least 4 times a week in the last month, I gave in and had to post about this because I am addicted. As you walk in there is a juice bar and a mash bar on the left. The mash bar reminds me of a froyo place but for health freaks. You pick your base whether it’s vanilla chia pudding, almond butter, vanilla cashew cream or coconut cream and then add toppings such as fruits, nuts, cookies, and more. In the back there are dried products like kale and granola packaged up for purchase. Then, behold the counter on the right. It’s full of dishes of paleo food aka the caveman diet which is grain-free, oil free and butter free- but definitely not flavor free.

The Butternut Squash with arugula and raisins gets me every time. I’ve even tried making this at home but theirs is obviously just so much tastier and there is barely anything in it. It’s only those three ingredients with a little olive oil to cook. The squash is soft and sweet, and it’s way better than Whole Foods and even Westville’s squash. The Miso Kale Salad has goji berries, sesame seeds and the dressing is incredible made with organic brown rice miso, tamari, unfiltered honey, shallot and brown rice vinegar. Since everything is priced out by weight this is your cheapest item because it’s light. I pair these two gems together in one box, and it’s a match made in heaven and something I could and sometimes eat everyday. The Chicken Cashew Salad is also really good and when you want some meat, add this to your order. Skip the Stuffed Portobello with parsnip, carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato and dates (2nd pic). The squash is way better and this isn’t anything special. Other options include:  a Stuffed Acorn Squash with roasted vegetables, cashews and coconut milk, Chicken Tenders baked with almond meal, Curried Sweet Potato, Turkey Meatballs, Venison, Tuna Salad, Wings, Spaghetti Squash, Brussels Sprouts, etc. All of the food is very clean, fresh and overly satisfying, so if you are looking for a way to start eating healthy without missing your cravings, Hu Kitchen is an unbeatable answer. They also have Bowls where you pick a base of either quinoa, root vegetable mash or vegetable medley and you top it with Miso Chicken, Magic Mushroom Mix or Beef. It looks amazing. Once I can kick my Miso Kale and Butternut Squash obsession I will move on to this. Hu Kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s an ideal take out spot or place to dine in solo when you are on the go and want something a healthier than that street meat.
