Roberta’s Pizza. You’ve heard about it, ya know, the place out in Bushwick or on the last episode of Lena Dunham’s HBO Girls. It has an amazing backyard with a teal sign that reads “Life’s a Beach,” making it an ideal drinking space while you wait for  pizza pie crusts to bake. Oh, and there is a rooftop garden where they grow the ingredients you are putting in your mouth. Waits here are known to be long, but if you come for brunch in the early morning it won’t be a big problem. You can watch the pizza’s being made, flipped and spun right at the entrance or you can enjoy some great people watching. From 1980 jean jackets with studs mixed with Harley Davidson t-shirts to Converses, every kind is eating here. It’s a “long hair don’t care” kind of vibe. The grungy picnic tables create a comfortable and casual atmosphere, so it’s a good hang out and date spot. Chili oil and flakes man each table- you can never add to much spice to pizza.

The Bee Sting Pizza is awesome and my favorite. Tomato, mozzarella, sopressata, chili and honey. It’s spicy and the sweet dash of honey cools it down and creates a dance party in your mouth. I loved this one. The Famous Original seemed pretty lonely compared to this flavorful beast. The pizzas are very doughy lacking much crisp if that is your style. They all have pretty cute names as well such as Cheeses Christ (mozzarella, taleggio, parmigiano, black pepper) and The Good Girl (taleggio, pork sausage, kale, garlic, chili flake). The beastly Calzones are insanely huge, and the dough is basically falling off the plate. The Soft Scrambled Eggs with maitake mushrooms are very soft and creamy indeed. Not something you’d make at home. They are a bit more “gourmet” if you will. The Corned Beef is also delic and very tender. Roberta’s is the kind of place where you  feel reminiscent and fall in love with New York all over again. It’s just that cool without even trying.
